New product preview-OSDP protocol readers

Proximity card reader that supports OSDP protocol is coming soon...

OSDP is short for Open Supervised Device Protocol, it is more secure than tradtional Wiegand reader, why ? let's check below picture to know more their difference about signal transmission.

On the right is the wiring mode of Weigen. In addition to the power cord, other control lines are basically connected to more than 5 signal control lines. For OSDP, it is much simpler. A pair of shielded twisted pair cables can complete this part of the wiring.

Because OSDP is based on RS485, so the transmission distance has also been greatly improved, the theoretical communication distance from the original Weigen 120 meters increased to 1,200 meters, is a qualitative leap. While we rarely use this distance between the card reader and the controller when we actually connect them, with OSDP, the distance between the card reader and the controller is no longer a limiting factor in engineering installation.

In terms of encryption and monitoring, there are two versions of OSDP here, V1 and V2. From the security point of view, although V1 is not encrypted, but also to the card reader to do the monitoring function, that is to say, the current state of the card reader is not online, what is the use of the situation, whether anyone has taken it down these signals are background can be monitored - because it is two-way communication. The V2 version encrypts the line with AES128.

Therefore, as mentioned above, OSDB will occupy a large market in the access control security industry, but also the improvement of access control product technology.
